Saggar-fired Kintsugi vessel

This is a hand-built vessel that was done in the Japanese tradition of Kintsugi. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise, accenting the breaks with a metal leafing of gold, silver, or platinum. The individual parts were fired separately in a saggar and then reassembled to give each piece its own unique markings. The seams are treated with metal leafing and the entire piece is waxed with a fine crystaline wax. It measures about 14 inches tall.
