Saggar-fired animal
  • Saggar-fired animal

This new piece just came out of the firing with some interesting surface colors and markings. Those came from the firing technique, which involves a combination of materials like ferric chloride, salt, sugar, copper carbonate, masking tape, and steel wool encased around the piece with aluminum foil. During the firing, these materials react with the smooth surface of the clay due to the amount of heat  to give the animal its own personality.

It measures about 15" long and 10" high.
